Description: There are nearly 30 golf courses in the Dominican Republic, and most of the golf courses are considered as ones of the finest in the world. In the first week of the Golf Spectacle we will play the golf courses at the South Coast in Santo Domingo (American Capital of Culture in 2010), Boca Chica, Juan Dolio and La Romana.
Hostal Nicolas de Ovando The Hostal Nicolas de Ovando, member of the MGallery collection, is located in the colonial quarter of Santo Domingo dating from 1502. Listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the 3 houses and their gorgeous patios include the original home of the town's founder, Governor Nicolas de Ovando. All 104 rooms boast modern conveniences such as air conditioning, direct-dial phone, Internet, satellite TV, safe and minibar.
Santo Domingo Golf & Country Club (played by Gerhard Koch only) Santo Domingo Country Club offers two courses, one nine-holer and the Championship Course. The Championship Course has large, fast greens and tree-lined, sloped fairways that provide some challenges but the course is still playable for golfers of ever skill level. Santo Domingo Country Club offers practice facilities that include putting, chipping, and pitching greens for golfers to work on their short game.
Isabel Villas Golf Course This 9 Hole par 3 course can be found just to the north of Santo Domingo. The longest hole on the Isabel Villas Golf Course measures 154 yards and the shortest 84 yards are making it a playground for locals wanting to practice their shot iron game. Set on a hilly parcel. Isabel Villas Golf Course is designed by Ricardo Orellana.
Las Lagunas Country Club Las Lagunas Country Club has an interesting design with a longer, more open front nine and a narrow back nine. The golf course is situated on a hilly terrain with small natural lakes spread throughout, providing challenging water hazards on a few holes. Changes in elevation and well placed bunkers keep the course exciting. Even though Las Lagunas Country Club offers a challenging game for reasonable rates, it is still a well-kept secret so it is usually not crowded. San Andres Caribe Club Decription follows soon.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Hotel & Golf Resort Los Marlins The Embassy Suites Los Marlins Golf Resort is located in the southeast of the Dominican Republic, 45 minutes by car from the Capital Santo Domingo in the holiday center of Juan Dolio. The luxury hotel features 125 elegant equipped rooms with bathroom and hairdryer, telephone and minibar, mini refrigerator and safe.
Guavaberry Golf Course Guavaberry's convenient location, natural beauty, and challenging features make it one of Gary Player's most stunning achievements. The Gary Player Design team has outdone itself by creating not only a golf course but a landscaping marvel. This beautiful 7,156-yard par-72 course is sensitively blended into the landscape bordering a tropical forest and nature preserve.
Los Marlins Golf Course: Designed by Charles Ankrom, an award winning international golf course architect, the 18 hole, par 72 Los Marlins Golf Course (member of The Finest Golf Clubs of The World) offers multiple tees to challenge all levels golf players. The natural beauty of the site, artistic landscaping and design, excellent practice facilities and the attractive Clubhouse and Pro shop, make Los Marlins a point of reference of any golfing vacation within the setting of a Caribbean paradise.
Hotel Casa de Campo Chic décor, rich mahogany woods and native Coralina stone typify the ambiance of all guest rooms. Featuring one king or two double beds with spot reading lights and elegant fabrics; air-conditioning; local artwork and delicate orchids provide a tranquil setting to enjoy the 42" LCD flat screen TV with cable; high-speed wireless internet; and much more facilities. Rooms also include one 4-passenger touring cart.
Teeth of The Dog Teeth of the Dog golf course designed by renowned architect Pete Dye opened in 1971 and has long been revered as the best golf course in the Caribbean. The course has some of the best views in golf, seems somewhat forgiving and manageable, but tends to bare its teeth at least once per round. Since its' opening, the Teeth of the Dog has consistently been ranked as one of the top 50 courses in the world. In 2002 the course ranked 35th in the world in golf Magazine's rankings.
Dye Fore The numbers are staggering: 7,740 yards in length; 7- CLIFF-side holes dropping 300 feet to the Chavon River below; 40 mph gusting winds - and breathtaking 360 degree views! "Visually, the course is intimidating and the par three's are in a word... incredible." The Dye Fore addition to Casa de Campo´s golf triad is said to rival the "Teeth of The Dog."
The Links The beautiful inland Links course at Casa de Campo may not seem as exciting or challenging as its sea-side and cliff-hugging siblings, but don´t be deceived. The Links is interior on the Resort property with spectacular views of the Caribbean and the Resort.
Optional excursion: Isla Saona Take a boat (optional tour - not included) to the island Saona, located in the national park „Parque Nacional del Este". You will pass beautiful untouched beaches and mangrove forests, the habitat of many rare species of fish and birds.
La Estancia La Estancia Golf Course is the center piece of a residential housing resort. The golf course is set in beautiful landscape overlooking the Chavón River from some of the holes. 12 of 18 holes are set in the hill landscape above River Chavón. La Estancia Golf Course is designed by P B Dye which is an almost certain guarantee for that a lot of redesign of the landscape will been undertaken in the construction of the golf course. La Estancia Golf Course is no deviation from that P B Dye trend.
